You are an inspiring and ambitious researcher with a strong profile, demonstrable by international publications and academic network. Your publications show broad knowledge of the fields of (labor) migration, (post/colonial) cultural identities and representations. You are an Area or Regional Studies specialist, with a disciplinary background in the humanities (cultural history, cultural studies, film, literature or art history), a good command of relevant languages, and proven commitment to doing interdisciplinary research.
Your primary focus lies with Europe, but you are also able to engage with cultural histories of migration and coloniality in other regional contexts. Your research matches the profile of the Amsterdam School for Regional, Transnational and European Studies (ARTES).
You are able to develop and provide modules on cultural histories of migration and coloniality at the BA and MA levels. Important is the proven flexibility in teaching on topics beyond your own research focus, a willingness to work in interdisciplinary teams of teachers and the ability to offer inspiring lectures and tutorials in the BA, MA and minor programmes that aspire to an international community of students. We especially value an ethical commitment to the societal position of the communities that your research engages with.
Your experience and profile:
- you hold a PhD in a relevant field, with a research focus on (labor) migration, cultural representations and societal transformation in contemporary Europe
- you maintain an international academic network in the research area concerned;
- you provide research output commensurate with the level of the position;
- you are an active and ambitious researcher with a strong publication record;
- you have the demonstrable ability and ambition to obtain external research grants;
- you have broad and relevant teaching experience at BA and MA level, and an interest in teaching in interdisciplinary programmes such as European Studies;
- you have good command of Dutch and English. If you do not speak Dutch, an active and passive command must be acquired within the first two years of the employment contract and the state examination for Dutch as a Second Language programme II must be passed;
- you are capable of interdisciplinary co-operation in teaching, research, and are willing to take on administrative tasks;
- you have excellent organisational experience and skills;
- you acquired the Dutch Basic Teaching Qualification, or are willing to acquire this within the first two years.
