Job description

The Lifespan Cognitive Dynamics Lab, led by Prof. Dr. Rogier Kievit, studies why cognitive abilities differ between people and change across the lifespan. We are looking for a Research Assistant to help set up and deliver a five year, ERC funded project (CODEC) on changes in cognitive abilities in children. Will you join our team?

This study will measure children's cognitive performance in both school and lab settings using tablets as well as laboratory-based tests and neuroimaging. The student or research assistant chosen for this position will complete a wide variety of research tasks that may include participant recruitment, administrative duties (developing and checking ethics documentation and protocols), pilot testing, testing, and communications, preparation, and implementation, and data entry, cleaning and management.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Help develop standard operating procedures.
  • Help draft, check and submit ethics documentation.
  • Help develop and pilot cognitive tests on tablets.
  • Contact schools and teachers for recruitment into the study.
  • Test children in classrooms and lab settings
  • Coordinate testing and recruitment.
  • Perform science outreach in school settings.
  • Communicate and provides information (e.g. a study website).

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have highly organized and precise with logistic skills and have fluency in written and spoken Dutch.
  • A master's (desirable) or bachelor's (essential) degree in (developmental) psychology, pedagogical science, education, cognitive neuroscience, psychometrics or related field.
  • Willing and able to learn new methods and skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • An interest in child development.
Desirable skills:
  • Experience in (structural) neuroimaging, especially (f)MRI.
  • Experience testing children in lab settings.
  • Computational skills (e.g. R, Python or comparable).
  • Experience managing large datasets or databases.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 year with a possible extension.

The anticipated start date is between March 2023 and June 2023. This position is for 18 hours per week, but the number of hours can be discussed.   • As a full-time employee (36 hours per week), you are entitled to approximately 168 vacation hours (over 23 days) per year.
