In a joint effort between TU Delft and Leiden University Medical Center, we are looking
to fill an exciting Ph.D. position in translational research on quantitative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of the heart. The successful candidate will pursue their four year doctorate in a young and dynamic group in a prolific, creative and fun environment. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
At TU Delft the candidate will be affiliated with, the Magnetic Resonance Systems lab (Mars lab), a newly founded research lab in the Department of Imaging Physics, working relentlessly on the advancement of quantitative. In LUMC the candidate will work with the Cardiovascular Imaging Group (CVIG), a well established clinical research group in the Department of Radiology.
The Ph.D. student will be responsible for an own research line that aims at development of novel acquisition schemes to detect subtle forms of heart-attack with quantitative MRI. This project will comprise a strong sequence development part and will be carried out translationally in a close collaboration with the Leiden University Medical Center, with joint supervision by Prof. Hildo Lamb.
The successful candidate will also be involved in other ongoing research projects at the lab including reconstruction projects. At advanced stages the Ph.D. student will have the opportunity to take mentoring responsibility for students at the bachelor’s and master’s level. The primary infrastructure for MRI research at the Mars lab is a new Philips Ingenia 3T scanner, located in a local clinical research center with substantial scan time dedicated to our lab for research purposes. Clinical translation will be carried out at the nearby Leiden University Medical Center.

Doing a PhD at TU Delft requires English proficiency at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis. Fixed-term contract: 18 months.
Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, but in the form of 2 employment contracts. An initial 1,5 year contract with an official go/no go progress assessment within 15 months. Followed by an additional contract for the remaining 2,5 years assuming everything goes well and performance requirements are met.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2541 per month in the first year to € 3247 in the fourth year.
