We are looking for a highly motivated candidate for a PhD project titled “The role of dual identity holders for achieving sustainable cooperation among conflicting groups”. This position focuses on the topic of multiple conflicting identities through an intersectional perspective in the domain of social psychology and sociology. The project is part of the transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary research programme SCOOP: Roadmaps to Resilient Societies (see: http://www.scoop-program.org). SCOOP is a research and training centre dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of sustainable cooperation as a key feature of resilient societies. SCOOP brings together researchers of the University of Groningen, Utrecht University, VU Amsterdam, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Radboud University Nijmegen. The faculty studies issues relating to human behaviour, and the relationships between people and society as a whole. This includes the study of how people function under normal circumstances, but also of the problems encountered by individuals or groups, and how these can be resolved or prevented. You should have:

- (almost) finished a (research) master's degree in the domain of Social Psychology or Psychology or Sociology with a focus on sexuality or migration or a related discipline
- a solid understanding of social psychological theories of identity, sexuality, or migration
- a solid training in either or both of qualitative research methods (i.e., interviews, content analysis) or quantitative research methods (i.e., experiments) or willingness to acquire both
- eagerness to learn to work in an interdisciplinary research team and to conduct interdisciplinary research in the SCOOP programme
- an excellent academic record
- have experience in or eagerness to publish international articles and write a dissertation
- good social and communication skills
- excellent command of English and academic writing skills, and some command of Turkish or Dutch
- motivation and ability to teach in undergraduate psychology courses.

Fixed-term contract: 48 months.

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

- a salary of € 2,541 gross per month in the first year of the appointment, rising to € 3,247 gross per month in the fourth year for a full-time position
- a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance
- attractive secondary terms of employment
- the position is classified in accordance with the University Job Classification (UFO) system; the UFO profile is PhD candidate
- a temporary position of 1.0 FTE for a period of four years. You will first be appointed for a period of 12 months. After a positive evaluation, the contract will be extended for the remaining period. You are expected to contribute to the department's undergraduate teaching program from the 2nd year of the PhD employment. The teaching load will be approximately 0.2 FTE in years 2, 3 and 4.
