Would you like to be part of an innovative and inspiring organization? At QuTech, we are searching for a Principal Investigator to join us!

Job description

We are actively looking for a Principal Investigator in semiconductor qubit theory and modelling, to strengthen our quantum computing division. The PI will work in a collaborative setting and contribute to realizing our mission.

The candidate’s research program is expected to contribute to the general aim of the Quantum Computing Division (QCD) within QuTech. In the Quantum Computing Division we develop the hardware and software components and their integration in a full stack to build scalable prototypes of a quantum computer. We focus on solid-state qubits based on electron spins in silicon and hole spins in germanium qubits, and qubits based on superconducting quantum circuits. We develop control (cryo-)electronics, software and quantum algorithms, building the full quantum computing stack. Theory and experiments are strongly intertwined in all these efforts.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has a strong background in the theory, modelling and benchmarking of qubits based on electron and hole spins in semiconductor quantum dots, has a demonstrated track record of collaborative work with experimental colleagues in a world-leading environment, and has a mission-driven mind-set to focus on scaling toward fault-tolerant quantum computation. Additional Expertise or an interest in other solid-state qubit technologies will be considered positively.

Furthermore, we are looking for a colleague who is passionate, committed and respectful. In QuTech group leaders, we value leadership and a sense for initiative in combination with a strong team spirit and willingness to contribute to the organization. We expect a positive, open-minded and professional attitude, and a strong work ethic. Finally, we are looking for candidates with excellent communication skills and intercultural sensitivity.

QuTech is a mission-driven research institute founded by Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Together, we work on a radically new technology with world-changing potential. Our ambition is to develop scalable prototypes of a quantum computer and an intrinsically safe quantum internet.

We are creating the quantum future and we believe that quantum technology will be a game changer in many social and economic sectors – including health, agriculture, climate and safety. To achieve our ambitious goals, we bring together scientists, engineers and industry in an inspiring environment, with plenty of space for ambition, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Our research and engineering activities are conducted in three divisions: Quantum ComputingQuantum Internet and Qubit Research.

The candidate’s research program is expected to contribute to the general aim of the Quantum Computing Division (QCD) within QuTech.
