Organising and managing innovations and transitions within and across organisations.
Harnessing complex public-private ecosystems.
Driving design and innovation to meet societal challenges.

Job description

To tackle societal challenges ranging from waste reduction and the energy transition to early diagnostics and disease prevention, innovation is crucial. But in an increasingly complex world, no organisation can successfully innovate on its own. In fact, meaningful and sustainable innovation relies on the organisation and management of ever-changing public-private ecosystems. As Assistant Professor in Organisation of Design & Innovation at TU Delft you will focus on the role of innovation management in complex ecosystems. How can individual organisations redesign their offering to embrace ecosystem innovation? Or how can long-term collaborations be developed and managed between the private and public sectors to address societal challenges? These are just examples of research questions you could take on in a sector of your choice.

You will develop your research vision on organising innovation, including appropriate quantitative empirical research lines. To realise your vision, you will conduct research and write research proposals to generate funding, grow your network and interact with relevant ecosystems. You will also build your team of PhD students, supervising them to completion together with a promotor on marketing and innovation management. In addition, you will help develop our curriculum by creating courses, for instance on strategic design, managing innovation, entrepreneurship and understanding organisations. You’ll be teaching these courses to our Bachelor and Master students, whom you’ll also coach and support with their theses. And you will build your academic authority by disseminating your knowledge through publications, presentations at conferences and within relevant innovation management communities.

Your home base will be the 70-strong, internationally diverse team of Professors, teachers, PhD students and postdocs in the Department of Design, Organisation and Strategy (DOS). At DOS, you will find driven specialists in hugely diverse fields, including design, innovation management, marketing, consumer behaviour, econometrics, but also data and AI. We have a highly collaborative, friendly and inspiring culture. And we will give you all the support you need to evolve and grow your academic career. Join us, and help us empower organisations, ecosystems and our students to address societal challenges through innovation management and design!

As your research is typically interdisciplinary, you enjoy working closely with people in multiple disciplines to achieve meaningful team results. You also enjoy teaching and mentoring students, while growing your own competencies in your tenure track!

You also have:

  • A PhD in Strategic Design, Business Administration, Economics, (Innovation) Management, Open Innovation, Organisation Studies or another relevant subject, geared to design and innovation management.
  • A keen interest in the other disciplines of your interdisciplinary research.
