Satellite data have become crucial to understand and monitor the impact of climate change. The application of satellite data ranges from studying ocean currents, measuring the retreat of glaciers and ice sheets, to remote sensing of the atmosphere, e.g. in identifying sources of pollution and greenhouse gases.
As Assistant or Associate Professor in Remote Sensing you provide your expertise on remote sensing to contribute to the overall mission and strategy of the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Utrecht (IMAU). In this position, you conduct excellent research and contribute to inspiring education. As a remote sensing specialist, you strengthen the connections between the science disciplines of IMAU: the cryosphere, ocean, atmosphere, coastal and shelf-sea dynamics.
You are able to build new research collaborations and application areas, for which you recognise opportunities for internal and external (interdisciplinary) collaboration and acquire research funding. You take initiative and add value while sharing your knowledge both internally within Utrecht University and across the wider community (e.g. KNMI, Delft, Wageningen, but also international). You inspire your students through engaging lectures in our Bachelor and/or Master programmes. With your knowledge of teaching, you reflect critically on the curriculum and help contribute to educational innovation. As assistant or associate professor in your field, you work to expand your line of research with your fellow staff members and PhD students. You have a visible presence in the field and in society through your commitment to outreach activities.
This position is open for an Assistant Professor. However, candidates who are already employed as an Assistant Professor in a relevant field can apply for the position of Associate Professor.
We are looking for an inspiring academic leader who meets the following qualifications:
If you are excited to actively participate and shape Remote Sensing research and education at IMAU, we invite you to apply.
