Job description

We offer an Assistant or Associate Professor position in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing in the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Twente (UT).

Within the department, the Mathematics of Computational Science group focuses on numerical methods for (partial) differential equations and inverse problems, see also https://www.utwente.nl/en/eemcs/sacs/

The challenge
You will actively develop your mathematical profile and seek connections between fundamental mathematical research and applied research; for example, within the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology, or the TechMed Centre for Biomedical Technology and Technical Medicine.

You will be involved in the teaching program of the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Bachelor and Master level as well as in service teaching. During the first three years, you will acquire the University Teaching Qualification.

Requirements

  • You have obtained a PhD degree in mathematics, with a topic rooted in numerical analysis, scientific computing, or a closely related field.
  • You are passionate about innovative research in numerical mathematics, illustrated by publications in highly ranked international mathematics journals.
  • You are ready to take up the challenge to acquire research grants, either via personal schemes, such as within the NWO Innovational Research Incentives Scheme (VENI/VIDI/VICI) and the European Research Council or in collaboration with our Applied Mathematics groups and related research networks.
  • You have proven dedication to teaching and excellent communication skills, allowing for efficient interaction with colleagues from other disciplines.

Conditions of employment

  • We offer a permanent position with an initial contract for one year. A positive evaluation in the first year leads to a permanent appointment. Part-time (e.g. 32 hours) is negotiable.
  • The position is at Assistant- or Associate Professor level, with a monthly salary on a full-time basis ranging from € 3.974,- (scale 11) to € 7.362,- (scale 14) gross per month, depending on qualifications.
  • Criteria for evaluation comprise a strong track record of publications, evaluation of teaching capacities and a demonstrated ability to acquire funding and to achieve an international network and reputation.
  • Our terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labor Agreement for Universities (CAO) and include a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
