In terms of research, the candidate's profile should preferably have connections to areas such as public choice, economics of wellbeing and happiness. Even though the research focus of the chair needs to be on public economics, connections to other research themes at U.S.E. (future of work, entrepreneurship, and sustainability and economic development) and to the Utrecht University Strategic Themes Institutions for Open Societies and/or Pathways to Sustainability are highly appreciated. The chair is also expected to play a key role in the Utrecht University Better Wellbeing Index (BWI) programme.

In terms of teaching expertise, the chair is expected to be knowledgeable of the full domain of public economics. The chair is expected to contribute to the Master's programme Economic Policy, which includes Master's level courses related to public economics and policy evaluation, Bachelor's level courses such as economics of the public sector, public economics and policy, and courses in the Bachelor's programme in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, such as Principles of the welfare state.

The following profile will be expected of the chair holder:

• broad knowledge of and experience in the field of public economics;
• belonging to the top of the field and is an initiating authority within the national and international academic networks in the field of the chair;
• a strong track record in research as demonstrated among others by publications and citations in international recognized journals;
• proven experience in setting up and supervising PhD research and the ability to enthuse and stimulate young researchers;
• proven experience in developing societal impact, evidenced by national and global visibility;
• a record of achievement in undergraduate and graduate teaching and administration;
• proven ability to acquire external funding;
• good communicative skills and proven ability to participate in local, national and international public (policy) debates;
• fluency in English.

We offer a position for a Full Professor (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) in an international working environment. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €6,099 and €10,721 (scale HL2-HL1 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
