PhD Candidate in the area of Organizational Behavior / Human Resources / (Strategic) Management at Maastricht University

Job description

The Department of Organization, Strategy, & Entrepreneurship (OSE) at the School of Business and Economics (SBE) of Maastricht University offers a 4-year PhD position for a student with a (Research) Master of Science degree or equivalent, starting in September 2023.

At SBE, we offer a dynamic and challenging job in an internationally oriented organisation where students receive an advanced education and scholars conduct exciting research. The PhD Candidate will have the opportunity to carry out research within the OSE department, in the context of the topic described below, and within the PhD programme of the Graduate School of Business and Economics (GSBE). As such, the PhD student will contribute to the development and outreach of our research. Working at SBE enables the candidate to be part of an (inter)national network of top universities and renowned scholars.

Within SBE, the OSE department is a leading, international, and dynamic scientific unit with a pleasant and constructive working atmosphere. The quality of the department as well as the School is, among other things, reflected by the Triple Crown accreditation by EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA and the high-quality publications of our scholars (such as in the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy, Human Relations, Journal of Management Studies, or Human Resource Management Journal). Candidates are expected to enter the doctoral program of GSBE and to deliver a doctoral dissertation within three to four years, depending on having finished a 2-year research master or a 1-year master in a relevant field.

The selected PhD Candidate will work on a project aimed at studying Quiet Quitting; a contemporary societal phenomenon that affects individuals, teams, and organizations. For example, Quiet Quitting challenges the efficient and sustainable way of working for teams and organizations, while also challenging individual employee’s career and well-being. The primary goal of this PhD project is to advance knowledge on how employees, teams, and organizations cope with this emerging phenomenon. This PhD project will focus primarily on the scholarly fields of Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, and Organizational Psychology. Yet, it also seeks to integrate knowledge from the field of Strategic Management to produce a more novel, rounded, and in-depth, investigation into this phenomenon.
