Faculty Position in Astronomical Instrumentation for High-Contrast Imaging

Leiden Observatory invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in astronomical instrumentation with a focus on high-contrast imaging (HCI) and spectroscopy of circumstellar disks and exoplanets. Leiden has a research instrumentation group that concentrates on the development of state-of-the-art instruments as well as the design and testing of innovative photonics devices for  HCI, adaptive optics, and polarization, for space and ground-based telescopes. As part of the Netherlands Research School for Astronomy (NOVA), substantial long-term funding has been secured to contribute to technical developments for an exoplanetary imaging camera and spectrograph for the ELT.

Research at our Institute/Faculty 
Leiden Observatory is a diverse department, carrying out observational and theoretical research in the fields of cosmology, formation and evolution of galaxies, galactic structure, compact objects, gravitational waves, molecular astrophysics, star- and planet formation, exoplanets, and astronomical instrumentation. Staff members have access to a wide variety of telescopes on the ground and in space, as well as excellent computing facilities. The Observatory offers a complete undergraduate (BSc) and graduate (MSc, PhD) teaching program that focuses on integrating students into research as soon as possible. The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in the education and supervision of students, in particular in our MSc Astronomy & Instrumentation track.
