Job description

The IISH is working on a digital born archive project. The approach is collaborative, and the intended project partner is an activist community on climate issues. In collaboration with activists and organisers within this community, the project aims to create, describe and prepare for long-term storage a digital archive of documents, images and other types of material. Parts of the archive may be made accessible online. While it is a temporary project, we recognize the need to maintain the results also after the project phase and see it as a 'pilot' for future projects.

The project is coordinated within the Collection Development Department, and is carried out in cooperation with members of other departments including Processing and Public Services.

What will you be doing?
  • You contact and liaise with the community, and together with its members identify materials to be harvested/stored, document their provenance, context, and conditions for access. You organize meetings with community members and other (IISH) colleagues to facilitate the project's progress and realize the project's objective.
  • You work out and execute a project plan, draw up a planning and set concrete goals.
  • You help identifying the most suitable digital tools for archiving digital born materials and pay special attention to the alignment with IISH workflows, storage systems and access portals.
  • You maintain thorough documentation for future learning purposes.
Although this is a temporary position, we would like to introduce you to the collection work of the IISH in general to explore if thereare possibilities to work together for a longer period.

Where will you be working?

You work in the Collection Development department, which is responsible for collecting, and will be supervised by one of our staff members. You also are in touch with staff members of the departments of Processing and Public Services.

Some of the work will take place where it is most convenient for the community, other parts will take place at the IISH. The IISH building is a lively place in Amsterdam East where international visitors, researchers and collection staff meet.
