Job description

Are you passionate about the intersection of biology and computer science? Do you dream of developing cutting-edge methods and software tools to unlock the secrets of biological data? Then we have the perfect opportunity for you! The Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) is seeking a talented bioinformatician to join our team.

What are you going to do?

At IBED, we are leading the way in ecological and evolutionary research, and we are increasingly exploring (meta)genomic and transcriptomic data to make groundbreaking discoveries about micro- and macro-organisms. As our bioinformatician, you will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting our scientists, postdocs, and PhD students in the bioinformatic analysis of their data. You will also be responsible for setting up, adapting, and evaluating existing software programs to ensure our team has the best possible tools at their disposal. In addition, you'll have the exciting opportunity to help design relevant course modules and teach undergraduate students.

You will be joining our newly established IBED Computational Support Team, working within the Laboratories & Infrastructure Unit that supports our four research departments. You will also collaborate with bioinformaticians from the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS) at the University of Amsterdam Research Priority Area Systems Biology (www.systemsbiology.amsterdam), taking part in a vibrant community of like-minded researchers.
