Job description

The Faculty of Science and the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research (LACDR) are looking for a:

Staff position (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor) in drug development for inflammatory diseases (fulltime)

Key responsibilities
•    Establish an independent research line with focus on mechanisms of inflammatory diseases.
•    Identify targets or develop therapeutic approaches related to immune modulation in inflammatory diseases, preferentially based on biologics. 
•    Introduce state-of-the-art experimental models of an inflammatory disease.  
•    Make a substantial contribution to acquiring external funds.
•    Teach at different levels of the Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences curriculum and actively contribute to innovative teaching and to the translation of the research into teaching. 
Inflammatory diseases are a major focus point for the development of drugs based on both biologics and small molecules. The Division of BioTherapeutics within the LACDR focusses on the target discovery and development of immune modulatory treatment in the field of inflammatory diseases. Biologics have successfully been developed to treat a variety of life-threatening and chronic diseases, and currently form the most rapidly growing class of drugs. We aim to expand our research on vaccines and immunomodulatory biologics, with a focus on the treatment of inflammatory diseases. A concept for collaborations within the division are highly encouraged. 
To that end, we aim to establish a position that focusses on mechanisms of inflammatory disease and the application of innovative immune modulatory therapies in state-of-the art (animal) models.

Requirements

Selection Criteria 
•    Excellent research skills, as is evident from, for example, publications in renowned international journals; 
•    Knowledge of experimental models of inflammation/inflammatory disease;
•    A doctorate in a relevant discipline;
•    Demonstrable success in external fundraising as primary or co-applicant;
•    Team player with a  focus on (interdisciplinary) collaboration;
•    Excellent teaching abilities, enthusiasm and drive. Vision on teaching, teaching methods and curriculum development.

Conditions of employment

Terms and conditions  
Initially we offer a temporary position with the prospect of permanent employment. For an assistant professor the salary ranges from € 3.974,- to € 6.181,-  gross per month (pay scale 11 and 12 in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities), for an associate professor the salary ranges from € 5.506,- to € 7.362,- gross per month (pay scale 13 and 14 in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities). For a full professor the salary ranges from € 6.099,- to € 10.721,- gross per month (pay scale H2 and H1 in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities).
Leiden University offers an attractive benefits package with additional holiday (8%) and end-of-year bonuses (8.3 %), training and career development and sabbatical leave. Leiden University requires teaching staff to obtain the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If the successful applicant does not already possess this qualification or its equivalent, he/ she must be willing to obtain this Qualification within two years, There’s a language proficiency of minimum level Cl required  for staff who will teach in English.
