Job description

Within the Plant Sciences Group we are looking for a business developer who is excited to work with international clients selling information and services derived from online scientific Agri & Food tools.

As (junior) business developer you will focus on marketing the Agri & Food tools and Customer Services topics. The following topics are key aspects of the job; market validation, market analysis, license models, user intelligence and Customer-oriented product development. You have a commercial drive and strong interest in international Agri and food business. In this position you can use your expertise and extend your knowledge in marketing and sales.

You responsibilities will be:
  • Marketing the Agri & Food tools
  • Act as intermediary between customers and scientific and technical staff
  • Documenting important steps in the project
  • Reporting weekly status and the end result of the project
  • Summarize value creation route: online licenses models and sponsorship options
  • Summarize market analysis: user intelligence, user data & website traffic
  • Write a business case based on market validation, user intelligence, and product development
  • Developing & administrate Customer Services topics like; software licensing, product management, Customer account coordination and support.
  • Manage small projects such as customers feature requests, custom reports, training needs, and custom tutorials
  • Maintain direct contact with customers
  • Selling software licenses to new customers and advanced users
Online platform
Wageningen University & Research developed an online platform that is appreciated by hundreds of European users. The online platform utilizes scientific information about soil health and translates this in practical farm management advice for farmers. Therefore the platform plays a key role in the transition to sustainable agriculture, food production and less use of crop protection products. The platform is available in 22 languages and has users across Europe.

The platform is currently in transition to improve customer experience and expand the customer base. The junior business developer is expected to play a key role in this transition. Frequent interactions with clients, marketing surveys and product development are among the key tools and methods to be used.

More about the team
You will work with in the Business unit Field crops which co-developed the online platform and is keen to utilize your insights to further expand the functionalities. In terms of hierarchy, the position falls under the Business development team and the business unit Field crops. Furthermore you will be in close interaction with various colleagues at the Lelystad location, the managing IT specialist of the online Platform, other IT specialists, scientist of the plant sciences group and business development team.

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:
  • MSc degree in business administration, marketing or sales, or related field;
  • MSc degree in Agriculture with a demonstrated interest in marketing and sales.
  • Knowledge of marketing and sales;
  • Commercial drive;
  • Experience in online sales and marketing;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team; pro-active attitude; good communication skills; capacity to plan towards achieving deliverables;
  • A proactive and enterprising attitude.
Excellent English and Dutch writing and communication skills.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 3.527,= and € 4.644,- gross for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 11 max 11.6). We have a job available for 0.6 fte, meaning a 21,6 hour working week. You will initially receive a 9 month contract. Extension of the contract partially depends on funding's ability.

The work location will be in Lelystad and Wageningen.
