The Challenge

The built environment consumes a significant amount of energy, and as a result, it is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. With the increasing demand for clean and sustainable energy sources, hydrogen has emerged as a promising candidate for the built environment.

This Ph.D. vacancy aims to investigate the role of hydrogen in the built environment and evaluate its potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing efficiency. The goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential of hydrogen-based building energy systems. The expected outcome of this research will enable building designers, engineers, and decision-makers to make informed decisions regarding the adoption of hydrogen in the built environment.

Requirements

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic, professional, and ambitious colleague;
  • You are an outstanding MS graduate in the field of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline with a proven affinity to multidisciplinary assignments;
  • You have familiarity with energy systems and sustainability concepts;
  • You have a solid and demonstrable background related to hydrogen production, storage, and utilization;
  • You have the ambition and talent to accelerate in finding solutions for complex technological issues with a multidisciplinary character;
  • You have proficiency in programming, mathematical modeling, and simulation tools, preferably with experience in optimization techniques;
  • You have strong analytical, problem-solving, and writing skills;
  • You can work in a multidisciplinary team of researchers coming from various branches of science and industry;
  • You have good communication skills and a sound project approach;
  • You speak and write fluent English;
  • You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Conditions of employment

  • A full-time 4-year Ph.D. position;

  • A starting salary of € 2.541 in the first year and a salary of € 3.247 in the fourth year gross per month;
