Would you like to help enable the energy transition and work on the power grid of the future? Support pioneering research with high-voltage experiments as an electronic design technician at TU Delft.

Job description

The researchers at TU Delft’s High Voltage Technologies (HVT) group aim to accelerate the energy transition, for which we need a smart, safe and robust hybrid AC/DC power grid. The research we conduct is focused on high-voltage materials, components and testing for large-scale grid integration of renewables. As a lab technician at the High Voltage Lab you will be at the heart of our research, supporting our PhD and Master students with their projects.

You will be responsible for the electronic design of high-voltage experiments. Sparring with researchers and students, you will identify their needs and targets and build the electronic setup accordingly. You will also resolve technical issues and answer questions that researchers and students may have. Supporting a growing number of projects, you’ll be designing PCBs and create electronic devices for a wide range of equipment. To give you an impression, our lab equipment includes AC transformers, a 600 kV DC power supply and even a 20-stage lightning impulse generator, as well as a DC grid testing environment and a real-time digital simulator.

The High Voltage Lab is part of the Electrical Sustainable Power (ESP) Lab. You’ll be joining our internationally diverse and growing team of highly-skilled lab technicians. Specialised in different technologies, we collaborate closely, regularly discuss technical challenges and help each other. We share a drive to take on and enable new research geared to the transition to renewable energy, while securing the safety of all lab users and staff. Together, we’re responsible for the research equipment and infrastructure of our lab. Fostering an open and friendly atmosphere, we welcome your ideas and will give you all the support you need.

Department

Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) brings together three scientific disciplines. Combined, they reinforce each other and are the driving force behind the technology we all use in our daily lives. Technology such as the electricity grid, which our faculty is helping to make completely sustainable and future-proof. At the same time, we are developing the chips and sensors of the future, whilst also setting the foundations for the software technologies to run on this new generation of equipment – which of course includes AI. Meanwhile we are pushing the limits of applied mathematics, for example mapping out disease processes using single cell data, and using mathematics to simulate gigantic ash plumes after a volcanic eruption. In other words: there is plenty of room at the faculty for ground-breaking research. We educate innovative engineers and have excellent labs and facilities that underline our strong international position. In total, more than 1000 employees and 4,000 students work and study in this innovative environment.
