The Department of Information and Computing Sciences (ICS) is nationally and internationally renowned for its fundamental and applied research in computer science and information science. In our constantly changing (digital) society, we are continually looking for new, realistic ways to push the boundaries of both science and societal applications. We contribute to innovative information technologies through the development and application of new concepts, theories, algorithms, and software methods. With our expertise, we nourish a wide range of interdisciplinary and societal collaboration initiatives. Due to our successful educational programmes and our ambitions in research, we are searching for an Assistant Professor in Business Process Management & Analytics.

As an assistant professor, you will actively engage in research, teaching and supervision in the field of Information and Computing Sciences. In this position you will join the Business Process Management & Analytics (BPMA) group. The members of our group are working at the intersection of Computer Science, Information Sciences, and Data Science. We share a passion as to the analysis and design of IT-enabled work processes. Our goal is to develop methods, techniques, and tools that have an impact on the real world. We are a friendly community consisting of people with different backgounds. As an assistant professor in our group, you will participate in existing research collaborations. You are also expected to acquire funding for the development of new research lines. Considering the active involvement of the BPMA group in interdisciplinary programs, such as the Future Of Work hub, and initiatives to collaborate with societal partners, such as the AI Labs of the university, it is important that you can make a substantial contribution to the success to these initiatives. We expect you to present your work at relevant international conferences and publish in renowned scientific journals. You will also teach courses in our BSc and MSc programmes, as well as supervise students and PhD candidates. It is highly appreciated if you are interested in connecting with society at large by outreach activities.

Requirements

We are looking for a new colleague to complement our team at an academic level as well as at a personal level. You are a team player with a proven commitment and talent for research. You fit well with the position’s profile as described above and meet the following qualifications.

  • a PhD degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Informatics, or a related field;
  • demonstrable expertise in the field of Business Process Management;
  • track record on theoretically inspired, empirically validated research with a solid methodological foundation, leading to the development of artifacts;
  • wide experience with interdisciplinary research and, preferably, with the coordination of interdisciplinary research;
  • track record on active research collaboration with societal partners;
  • experience with, or readiness to, supervise PhD projects;
  • experience with and enthusiasm for teaching, innovative teaching methods and student supervision (BSc and MSc level);
  • affinity for outreach activities;
  • proficient in English, both written and spoken;
In addition, we would like you to have a proficiency in the Dutch language or that you are willing to learn the language in the next 2 years. As a university, we will support you in this and offer you the opportunity to master the language.

Conditions of employment

  • an appointment as Assistant Professor, starting with a fixed-term contract. Following a positive evaluation after 18 months, this will be converted into a permanent contract; 
  • a gross salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranging between €3,974 and €6,181 per month for full-time employment (scales 11-12 according to the Collective Labour Agreement (CAO) Dutch Universities );
  • 8% holiday bonus and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and based on the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch University;
  • special perks including a PhD candidate position funded by the Department in order to further build up your research, support for traveling to conferences, and various educational and development programmes offered by our University.

It employs over 200 people, working in four divisions: Interaction, Algorithms, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence and Software. The atmosphere is collegial and informal. Our BPMA group is part of the Software division.
