Are you passionate about the open science principles and can you take on the perspective of an academic researcher? Do you enjoy sharing knowledge with others and are you good at giving advice? Then we would like to meet you! Utrecht University Library is looking for two new colleagues to advise researchers on open access publishing.

Utrecht University (UU) has the ambition to be a pioneer in the field of open science, including moving to 100% open access publishing as soon as possible. The University Library contributes to UU's strategic agenda: with open outlook, open attitude and open science, the university is works on tomorrow's solutions. Besides access to scientific literature, the library offers advice, training and workshops to support scientific education and research in all faculties.

What the job entails
You support researchers in the open access publication of scientific work, together with enthusiastic colleagues. You give presentations and workshops on open access (policies). You answer questions on open access and open science-related topics. You build, maintain and are active in relevant networks inside and outside the university, representing the ambitions of the UU in the field of open access. You delve (further) into the field of open infrastructures and open access publishers to support the open publication process.

You will work in a dynamic, inspiring and knowledge-rich working environment within the library sector Academic Services. There is a lot of freedom to organise your work and confidence to shape the work together with your colleagues.

Requirements

This position requires strong communication skills and interpersonal qualities such as a customer-focused attitude, analytical abilities, and being results-driven, good at networking and good at working within a team. Furthermore, you recognise yourself in the following:  
  • You have a Master's degree and preferably at least 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • You have an affinity with scientific education and research and, in particular, with scientific publishing, or you would like to learn more about this.
  • You have excellent consulting skills.
  • You are organisationally sensitive, have a good sense of your environment and are able to represent the University Library in networks within and outside the UU.
  • You are excellent at conveying and sharing knowledge, both to groups and individuals.
  • You can keep a good overview of different areas of interest, you quickly master new material and know how to implement this well in your own work.
  • Because of your interest in the academic world and your affinity with the open science goals, you follow trends and developments in the field of (open) academic research and education and see where opportunities lie to realise goals. You work in a result-oriented way.
  • Furthermore, you have an excellent command of English; for international candidates, we require a minimum command of Dutch and the ambition to strengthen this if necessary.

Conditions of employment

We offer a temporary position (0.8 - 1.0 FTE) for one year in an international working environment. After positive evaluation, this can be turned into a permanent position. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between € 2,960 and € 4,670 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year.
