Job description

Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is a leading research university specializing in engineering science and technology with strong bonds to industry practice. Following the strategic goals, the Department of the Built Environment (BE) aims to educate future generations of students and meet today's and tomorrow's societal challenges.

There are three vacancies for a four-days a week position as design teacher or design teaching assistant. Within the Built Environment and as member of the unit AUDE staff, the candidate will be involved in the education part of AUDE in the Bachelor program of the department. Focus will be on teaching design studios and typo-morphological analysis seminars. Incidentally the candidate will be involved in teaching courses, however the emphasis will be on tutoring students in challenge-based learning projects on sustainable design and planning of buildings and cities. The candidate should be able to implement our mission to educate students to develop an academic attitude and a research oriented and system approach to address planning and design vision and strategies for shaping sustainable buildings and cities of the future. A special interest is required therefor in how research on the drivers of change in the social, technological, ecological, economic and political domains (STEEP) feed into the development and design of new typologies, programs and aesthetics. Bridging research knowledge into innovative design, necessary to trigger the urgently needed paradigm shifts in the built environment towards the UN's sustainable development goals.

Requirements

  • Motivated architectural or urban designer or planner with teaching ambitions, with an MSc in the built environment with as specialization architecture and/or urban design, or a comparable domain.
  • Ability to teach, demonstrated by experience or assistance in teaching. Informed vision on teaching and learning within the discipline.
  • Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication skills, including coaching and mentoring of students, leading a project or chairing a group.
  • Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English.
  • A minimum of three years relevant work experience in hands-on architectural or urban design of buildings, neighbourhoods and/or cities and regions.
  • Knowledge of social and human sciences or building technology and sustainable design is considered advantageous.
  • Specific interest in sustainability and circularity in relation to design systematic and integral solutions for the sustainable development of planet, people and prosperity.
  • Working knowledge of design methodologies and strategies.
  • Holding a 'University Teaching Qualification', if you do not have one, we will give you the opportunity to obtain it free of charge.
