Job description

Research within the Sensor Engineering research group of Maastricht University is focused on developing innovative sensor technologies for implementation in diverse fields ranging from medical diagnostics to food safety assessment. For this position we are looking for a motivated education and research engineer with a solid background in electronics, data processing, electro-mechanics or equivalent. The candidate will work in a multicultural, interdisciplinary team consisting of engineers, chemists and biomedical scientists. The research group has developed extensive expertise in combining sensor technology with chemistry and biomedical engineering to acquire knowledge and streamline applications for use in real life settings.

Our research focuses on the development of biosensor applications. This interdisciplinary research domain combines electronics with mechanical engineering (3D printing, microfluidics…), chemistry and life sciences. As an engineer, you will mainly work on the electronic readout of the sensors and the design of mechanical components. You have the liberty to work on your own research projects but will also assist your colleagues when they need to support in your field of expertise. As a postdoc, you will be the direct link between the management team and the researchers working in the lab, assisting in the supervision of the PhD students in the team.

You will also participate in education, research and supervision of PhD students. You will be enrolled as a tutor in electronics and engineering classes and will closely with the lecturer and the course coordinator. You will also supervise electronic lab students where you will help students build circuits, explain to them how the circuit functions and assist them by troubleshooting and correcting any mistakes in their circuits. You are also stimulated to obtain your UTQ and evolve towards a more independent teaching role, which will enable you to coordinate educational tasks and give lectures in the future. Furthermore, safety is an important part of your job description.
