Job description

The board of the Faculty of Economics and Business wishes to appoint a Professor of Practice in Accountancy.

The Professor of Practice will be appointed in the Department of Accounting and Auditing in the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen. The Professor of Practice will work closely with the professors responsible for education in undergraduate and (executive) master programs, research, and societal impact with regards to the auditing profession – and more specifically with the Professor of Auditing & Assurance. The Department of Accounting and Auditing furthermore focuses on management accounting and control; corporate governance and law; corporate reporting (financial and non-financial); and internal control and risk management.

In addition to each of the subject areas of management accounting and control, financial accounting and reporting, internal control, and auditing and assurance, the teaching and research of the department focuses on ESG reporting & assurance, as well as on key areas of the Faculty of Economics and Business’ strategic plan (Strategic Plan 2021-2026) “Leadership and Governance,” “Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence,” and “Future Prosperity and Sustainability.”

Because teaching and research in the Department of Accounting and Auditing are to a certain extent professional- and practice-oriented, the Faculty of Economics and Business considers it important that its faculty represents Professors of Practice in each of the main areas of accountancy. The Professor of Practice forms a bridge between science and practice. The Professor of Practice is expected to maintain a close relationship with the professional field and oversight bodies and to have a key role in the further development of the range of (executive) education, in knowledge exchange, and in the public debate in the field of accountancy.

Research
The Professor of Practice conducts applied research in the field of the practice of accountancy with a Dutch focus. The Professor of Practice facilitates existing research projects of the Department of Accounting and Auditing.

The duties thus include:

- contributing to education at the level of Bachelor, Master, (and more specifically) Executive Master and other executive programs
