Are you an enthusiastic teacher with a social science profile in the field of forest and nature conservation? Are you excited about developing, coordinating and practicing teaching and education at the university? Then this could be the ideal position for you!

The Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group at Wageningen University and Research is looking for an inspiring academic teacher with a profile relating to the research and education portfolio of the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group.

As a teacher you will develop an own strong education profile primarily contributing to the Bsc and MSc Forest and Nature Conservation programs. As one activity you are expected to contribute to education of MSc students and professionals under the framework of a newly acquired European grant that focuses on the deforestation governance. You will dedicate approximately 70-80% of your time to education, and about 20-30% to research and management.

The position is embedded within the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy Group in the Department of Environmental Sciences of Wageningen University, which provides fundamental research and academic education on our living environment. The chair group focuses on the political, social, cultural and economic dimensions of forests and nature. The FNP research program includes three interrelated themes: 1 Forest and nature policy and governance, 2 Value chains and markets for ecosystem services, 3 Nature-society interactions. FNP is a member of the Wageningen School of Social Sciences (WASS) and of the Wageningen Centre for Sustainability Governance.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must:
  • Hold a Master degree and/or a PhD (preferred) in a relevant (social) science field, e.g. relating to forest and nature conservation, natural resource management, or environmental studies;
  • Have a profile in line with the description above, connected to a demonstrated interest in teaching and university education and experience in relation to FNP’s education focus;
  • Have (ideally) experience in teaching at BSc and MSc levels in the social sciences and/or for interdisciplinary audiences connected to natural resource studies;
  • Have good communicative and writing skills; the ability to communicate and teach in Dutch is desirable for this position;
  • Are a team-player and are willing to contribute to general tasks and activities of the chair group;

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will be offered a fixed-term, 4 years contract which, upon positive evaluation based on criteria elaborated in the University's Education Career Path policy, can potentially lead to a permanent employment contract as an Academic Teacher. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 2.960,- and € 4670,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10).
