The context in which you work

You are part of the Human Resources (HR) department where about 75 colleagues work. The HR department consists of the teams: Advice, Services, Learning & Career Center, Health Safety & Wellbeing and a small staff (secretariat, Strategy and Legal).

The HR Advice department consists of approximately 15 FTE independently operating professionals (HR Business Partners, HR advisors and HR International employees) who tactically and strategically support the services and faculties within EUR in the optimal deployment and development of employees, both quantitatively and qualitatively.

Within the HR Advice team, the HR Business Partners and HR advisors are linked to their own faculty and/or service(s). The new HR advisor, together with the HR Business Partner, will be responsible for HR advice at the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB), one of the largest faculties within the university.

Job description
As an HR advisor, you have an important role in the contact with employees and managers of the faculty. You are also a sparring partner for the HR Business Partner on strategic themes, large projects, and the annual HR plan. In the HR field, there are many developments going on within ESSB such as leadership development, careerpaths for scientific staff (Recognition and Appreciation) and team science. You contribute to the implementation on parts. The activities are increasingly developing towards tactical HR level and are mainly related to the advisory role towards the faculty. You are an important link between the faculty and HR Services, and you contribute substantively to HR policy developed by the HR Advice team. You translate this policy into the operational implementation within the faculty.

Individual questions from employees and managers come to you. Administrative, standard HR questions, personnel administration and processing of mutations are handled by HR Services. In addition, you will work closely with specialists such as employment lawyers and absenteeism advisers.

You advise/support (among others) for the following topics:
  • The recruitment and selection process, transfers and departures;
  • The Result & Development (R&O) cycle;
  • Drafting secondment and termination agreements;
  • Career and development plans;
  • Strategic personnel planning;
  • You consult with managers;
  • Absenteeism cases in collaboration with the absenteeism manager;
  • The follow-up of the employee survey;
  • The implementation of HR policy arrangements, such as leave ancillary work and bilingualism;
  • Individual questions from employees and managers regarding the collective labor agreement NU, an appointment, remuneration proposals, career opportunities, etc.

Requirements

  • University or relevant college education;
  • At least 3 years of work experience as an all-round HR advisor;
  • Preferably experience working in a large organization with an international workforce;
  • Communicative and able to advise with conviction;
  • Proactive and initiating, you make things negotiable and share your own opinion / vision;
  • You can put yourself in the position of the customer / managers;
  • You can work independently at the faculty/service as well as in a team with HR colleagues on joint HR themes;
  • You set priorities and adjust expectations in a timely manner;
  • You have excellent knowledge of the Dutch and English language in word and writing (Dutch C2, English: C1 level).

What do we offer you?

A varied and challenging HR position in which you will work for both a faculty and a service from an enthusiastic and motivated HR team.

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Employment Conditions Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). The employment contract is entered into for the period of 1 year. At the end of this period, if the organizational conditions remain the same and function properly, a contract for an indefinite period will be offered. The salary depends on your knowledge and experience and is between € 2.960 for a full-time appointment and € 4.670,- gross per month (scale 10). The EUR has attractive employment conditions, including 8% holiday pay, an end-of-year allowance of 8.3% and a very generous leave scheme. Furthermore, the EUR is affiliated with the ABP for pension provision and we offer partially paid parental leave. Employees can also make use of EUR facilities, such as the Erasmus sports centre and the University Library.
