As a research technician, you play a central role in a vibrant translational research group at the department of Otolaryngology / Center for Translational Neurosciences (UMC Utrecht Brain Center) of the UMC Utrecht.

Job description

The Department of Otolaryngology is looking for an enthusiastic collaborative Research Technician for its hearing research lab. The hearing research lab has a long history of ground breaking fundamental and translational discoveries in the field of hearing and balance. Current projects include, but are not limited to functional and anatomical structure preservation for deaf persons receiving a cochlear implant, and to regenerate hair cells form resident stem cells in the inner ear with the translational goal to treat hearing-impaired patients.

As Research Technician, your main tasks and responsibilities will be the following:
  • Lab management in daily practice such as maintenance of equipment and tools
  • Providing technical assistance to specific projects
  • Performing animal experiments (with mice and guinea pigs)
  • Culturing primary cultures of inner ear tissue as 3D organoids
  • Performing molecular and cellular assays
  • Performing electrophysiology on live animals
  • Documenting laboratory experiments

Requirements

  • A degree in applied sciences (HLO) or a Master's degree in biomedical sciences (or related)
  • An article 13 licence and experience in animal experiments is preferred
  • Experience with 2D (primary cells, cell lines) and 3D cultures (e.g. organoids, spheroids)
  • Experience in cellular and molecular assays
  • A good command of the English language, and good communication and problem-solving skills
  • You are organized and detail oriented
  • You are independent and proactive
  • You are highly collaborative and work well in teams

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (36 - 36 hours) is € 5.069,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).
