Job description and qualifications 

The research program of the department centers on decision making in its broadest sense. Department members seek to understand how social, economic, and organizational settings shape individual and interdependent decisions. The department uses a range of state-of–the-art research methods (online data collection, mobile computing, big data), has excellent research facilities (multi-use lab spaces, psychophysiological equipment), and has a dedicated research support staff (lab assistants, programmers, technical support). 

The department’s educational program includes courses in the Dutch Bachelor of Psychology, the international Bachelor of Psychology, the Economic Psychology and Work and Organizational Psychology tracks in the Master of Social Psychology, and the Social Psychology track in the Research Master's degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences. 

The department has several research themes covering both fundamental and applied topics (examples in parentheses):

Economic and financial decision making (e.g., poverty, inequality, uncertainty, incentives, taxation, insurance, saving & spending)
Social and organizational decision making (e.g., game theory, conflict and cooperation, coalition formation, business ethics, lying and (dis)honesty)
Interpersonal/group decision making (e.g., inclusion and exclusion, threat, interdependence in relationships, collective action, leader decision making, hiring/recruitment decisions, couple decision making, speed dating)
Emotion and well-being (e.g., emotions, decision making, well-being, measurement of emotion momentaneous and over time, consumer satisfaction, work satisfaction, life satisfaction, job motivation, parenthood).

Tasks 

• Research (50%): we expect you to conduct and publish research and share our commitment to produce solid and transparent research. 
• Teaching (50%): we expect you to teach a variety of courses (we aim for 2-3 courses per academic year) and supervise students at the BSc and MSc level. The department teaches in the international and the Dutch Bachelor of Psychology and provides teaching to other curricula across the University. Most courses are taught in English; however, some courses in the Dutch Bachelor require proficiency in Dutch. Proficiency in Dutch is therefore an advantage but not a requirement. 
• We expect you to also contribute to tasks related to the management and (self-)administration of the department. 
• We expect you to contribute to academic citizenship (e.g., regular office hours, support your colleagues, participate in weekly lab meetings and colloquia, be a good person). 

Profile
Successful candidates have a strong affinity with research (basic and/or applied; field and/or lab). We are looking for candidates who are interested in research topics related to Diversity and Social Inequality. Our ideal candidate contributes to the department’s collaborative atmosphere and seeks to sustain our shared commitment to provide excellent education for our students. 

We seek applicants who:

• completed a PhD in the fields of Social,  Psychology, Economic Psychology, or Work and Organizational Psychology, or a related field; 
• have an interest in studying research topics related to Diversity and/or Social Inequality and the psychology of decision making broadly defined;
• can teach courses in cultural psychology (and when needed in Social/Economic/Work and Organizational Psychology);
• hold a basic teaching qualification (BKO) or are willing to acquire one in the first year of employment;
• are willing to submit applications for (inter)national research and/or teaching grants.

Language Policy
Proficiency in English is mandatory (CFR: C2 level). If not proficient in Dutch, candidates should also be willing to learn Dutch.

Tilburg University offers an excellent benefits package and strives for a good work-life balance. Secondary employment conditions such as study facilities and the possibility of partly determining your own terms of employment by means of a so-called options model. The Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch universities (cao) applies. 
Depending on the candidate’s experience, the starting gross salary will vary between € 3.974,- and € 5.439,- per month (full time) based on scale 11 of the cao. 

Start date: preferably by 1 September 2023

You are entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% of your gross annual income. If you work 40 hours a week, you will receive 41 leave days per year.
All university employees are covered by a pension scheme for civil servants (“Ambtenarenpensioenfonds” ABP).

Employees from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary.
