Are you interested in developing methods to investigate human choices and decision making? What are the choices behind network formation, the complex set of dependencies underlying decision making, and are there efficient algorithms for learning them?
Are you a highly motivated researcher excited by interdisciplinary research on developing new methods for analysing choice and decision making in complex systems? Are you passionate about teaching in an interdisciplinary and problem-based setting? Apply now for a Junior Docent position in the Data Analytics and Digitalisation department at Maastricht University.

Job description

The choices we make can have broad impact, including election outcomes, product/brand success and social (dis)obedience. The way that humans make choices or exhibit preferences are often influenced by various contexts: the set of choices available, environmental contexts and/or social factors such as conformity and contagion. This project will investigate factors that influence these preferences by discrete choice modelling using Bayesian inference and graph algorithms.

You will contribute to teaching in the bachelor programme in Business Analytics, a selection of master programmes, and supervise thesis projects. Alongside teaching, you will conduct research on discrete choice modelling and human decision making in complex social systems towards a PhD thesis. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers with expertise in discrete choice modelling, network science, algorithms, optimisation, and machine learning.
