Business developer Quantum communication testbed

Business developer Quantum communication testbed

Published Deadline Location
11 Oct 5 Dec Eindhoven

Job description

Are you an experienced business developer with a sense of strategy, feel for sales and affinity for quantum technologies and telecommunication? We might be looking for you!

In this role you will build up the strategic business of our new testbed facility. This facility will allow users to develop, test, validate and certify equipment in the quantum communication field. This includes quantum secure communication equipment and components as well as entangled communication between quantum computers.

You will work closely with the researchers in the university and sell collaborative projects using consultative selling as well as determine strategic direction in coordination with the researchers operating the testbed.

Job Description

You will work on a day-to-day basis together with researchers from the Electrical Engineering faculty working on quantum communication hardware and networks. The testbed itself is being implemented and extends across the Eindhoven region to surrounding villages. Connections between different communication nodes will occur with different technologies, from different suppliers for comparison purposes.

Products of the testbed are:
  • Component and sub-system test and characterisation services
  • Product level testing and validation
  • Security testing
  • (in the future) certification and accreditation

In this role, you are expected to sell these products and at the same time arrange deals to get the technology from different suppliers into the testbed to increase capabilities. Often this will be done in mutually beneficial projects, so a win-win mentality is critical. You will be required to make strategic choices on where to act and with which partners to enable long-term success. You will also be one of the decision makers on the shape the testbed should take in the future (standalone company, non-profit or other).

In order to execute these projects, it will be your responsibility to also plan them with partners in the region. This includes fiber partners and researchers from across the TUe, potentially other academic institutions and hardware and software suppliers.

The testbed is critical to the quantum community in Eindhoven and has an additional mission to attract, support and retain quantum networking companies in the region. Promoting the region is a secondary role that you will also be tasked with. For this you will work with a multidisciplinary team led by the quantum program manager at the TUe, regional developer/investor BOM, regional support organization Brainport Development and the Eindhoven government.

The testbed, when commercially operational, will require a (lead) business developer, as well as technical and non-technical management. Each of these roles could be an extension beyond your 6-month project for you but should be discussed based on your results and performance. This depends on funding availability, your advice on direction and the decisions of the testbed team.

At Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute (EHCI) we create an environment that allows our people to thrive.

Our strong supporting infrastructure allows you to focus on your work while generating new opportunities for collaboration and growth. We believe we can only remain world class if our people are doing well and feeling good.

The Eindhoven Brainport region, where we are located, is recognized as one of the most important regions in Europe for high-tech developments by the EU. Regional focus on specific technologies creates ecosystems to cooperate and commercialize technologies such as integrated photonics, high-tech systems and now quantum technology.

Many technological subjects are part of nationwide well-funded cooperative projects such as the Dutch growth funds on photonics and quantum technologies. Smaller projects are also commonly run with partners, and the Eindhoven University of Technology is a core center for industrial cooperation. On the academic side, you can grow and learn via our strong networks and projects with world-leading academic partners.
