As Postdoc you will join the solid-state NMR group led by Prof. Marc Baldus. The group is part of the Bijvoet Centre for Biomolecular Research whose mission is to advance our understanding of life at the most detailed molecular level by using cutting-edge structural and analytical methods in combination with state-of-the-art molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical biology as well as biophysical and computational methods. During your research you will contribute to the development and application of high-sensitivity/resolution solid-state NMR methods for in-situ applications. Such studies range from bacterial and fungal cells to human cells grown as 2D or 3D cell cultures. The Baldus group actively collaborates with other research groups in the Departments of Chemistry and Biology at the Utrecht University’s Faculty of Science, a renowned, world class centre of excellence and innovation in both research and education.
We invite applications from researchers who have the ambition to contribute to the further development of our in-situ NMR research lines. You will conduct your research in an international team where high-sensitivity NMR methods are being further developed and applied to elucidate and follow the organisation and function of biomolecular systems in their native environment. At our facilities you will have access and utilise state-of-the-art NMR instrumentation (including 1.2 GHz NMR and 800 MHz DNP systems) and fully equipped biochemical, cell biology and computational infrastructures. You will conduct your research in collaboration with local, national and international scientists in research areas ranging from in-cell protein structure elucidation and ligand binding to living materials as well as biocatalysis.
We are looking for an ambitious and creative scientist who is interested in working at the interface of NMR spectroscopy, biophysics and cellular structural biology. You enjoy being part of an interdisciplinary and international team of scientists, and meet multiple if not all of the following criteria:
We offer:
In addition to the employment conditions from the CAO for Dutch Universities, Utrecht University has a number of its own arrangements. These include agreements on professional development, leave arrangements, sports and cultural schemes and you get discounts on software and other IT products. We also give you the opportunity to expand your terms of employment through the Employment Conditions Selection Model. This is how we encourage you to grow. For more information, please visit working at Utrecht University.
A better future for everyone. This ambition motivates our scientists in executing their leading research and inspiring teaching. At Utrecht University, the various disciplines collaborate intensively towards major strategic themes. Our focus is on Dynamics of Youth, Institutions for Open Societies, Life Sciences and Pathways to Sustainability. Sharing science, shaping tomorrow.
At the Faculty of Science there are 6 departments to make a fundamental connection with: Biology, Chemistry, Information and Computing Sciences, Mathematics, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Physics. Each of these is made up of distinct institutes that work together to focus on answering some of humanity’s most pressing challenges. More fundamental still are the individual research groups – the building blocks of our ambitious scientific projects.
