Job description
The Amsterdam School of Economics (ASE) at the University of Amsterdam seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Professor in Data Science (tenure track).
RESEARCH PROJECT
The selected candidate will work with large data sets in an interdisciplinary team of researchers on the project Emergent Phenomena in Society: Polarization, Segregation and Inequality (PSI), a joint effort between the faculties of Economics and Business, Science, Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Law. This project aims at a an integrated understanding of PSI by applying models from statistical physics and computational sciences to large individual-level data sets.

Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD degree in Economics, Physics, Psychology or Sociology, with ample experience in data science. We seek candidates with a high potential for creative and independent research, the willingness to collaborate and interact with members of the team, the ability to teach courses in statistics, econometrics and data science to undergraduate and graduate students, and the ability to communicate research in seminars, conferences and in the classroom.

Assistant Professor appointments are 6-year tenure-track positions, with a tenure decision based on proven excellence in research and teaching. The ASE offers competitive European salaries. The gross monthly salary during the first three years as Assistant Professor will typically be, depending on experience and potential, between €5,090 and €5,929 (salary scale 11) + 16.3% holiday and end-year payments. This is based on 38 hours per week and in accordance with the salary scales and the collective labor agreement regulating employment conditions at Dutch universities. Researchers from outside the Netherlands can apply for a temporary tax reduction. The University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers a very attractive pension scheme. The teaching load is moderate and all teaching is in English. We also offer assistance in finding accommodation and career support for partners.
