We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic research assistant to join our team and play a crucial role in our research efforts focused on family firms. As a research assistant, you will be an integral part of our research projects, contributing to the exploration and analysis of various aspects related to family businesses. Key Responsibilities:
  • Research Support: Assist in the planning, execution, and analysis of research projects related to family firms, including data collection, literature reviews, and case studies.
  • Data Management: Manage and organize research data, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality, and contribute to data analysis using statistical tools.
  • Literature Review: Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to stay up-to-date with the latest research in the field of family firms and related areas.
  • Report Writing: Contribute to the preparation of research reports, academic papers, and presentations, including data visualization and interpretation.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with the research team, including faculty members and senior researchers, to achieve project objectives and milestones.
  • Communication: Present research findings to team members, participate in research meetings, and engage with external stakeholders.
  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative tasks related to the research project, such as project documentation, and coordination of research activities.


Maastricht University (UM)


  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field, such as business, economics, or social sciences.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, including experience with statistical analysis software.
  • An interest in family businesses and their unique characteristics and challenges.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in literature review and academic writing.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis methods is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Dutch, both speaking and writing, is a strong bonus.

What we offer

As a research assistant at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation you will be employed by the most international university of the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
  • Good employment conditions. The position is in graded in scale 7 according to the UFO profile “Onderzoeks- en Onderwijsassistent”, function level with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from € 2,693 to € 3.636 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus are applicable.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0.5 FTE. If proven suitable, the employment contract will be converted into an indefinite contract.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
