Architects are now having to design in a society caught between AI and the datafication of all areas of life, while faced with increasingly rapid global migration, and urgent environmental issues. As an Assistant Professor in Architectural Design for Healthcare at TU Delft, you will join the world-leading Design, Data, and Society Group, which acts as a bridge between design, technology and society. This inspiring interdisciplinary group of researchers, PhDs, AI architects, mathematicians, data design and archaeology experts and scientists seek answers to the most important architectural challenges of our time by stimulating debate, deepening it academically, and contextualizing it historically.
In this academic career track role, you will work on The New Open project, exploring the role of open data for design and societal change. Additionally, you will co-curate innovative cross-departmental projects and initiatives for the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment. Given the anticipated integration of AI components into all bachelor's and master's programmes, one of your main tasks will be to co-develop and establish a new research field for the group, with a specific focus on the intersection of architecture, technology and healthcare.
You will help to translate and implement the group's objectives into educational and research endeavours. Reflect on the evolving relationship between architecture and data technologies in the realm of healthcare. Explore the impact of new transformative technologies on the fields of design, healthcare, and society. And contextualize the future of healthcare within architectural practice. From small body sensors to large care institutions and from everyday practice to the big picture, you will help drive the future of healthcare by taking a critical approach to exploring the technological conditions under which architecture emerges in the age of global digital infrastructures.
A pioneering mindset makes you the ideal candidate to tackle a new field with verve and creativity. Your collaborative nature lets you co-create in a team setting while building bridges between our discipline and healthcare, computer science and ethical committees. Because you’ll have to operate in an international environment, you speak and write English fluently, and are willing to learn Dutch. You can just as easily talk to all kinds of stakeholders – from heart surgeons to giants of industry – while still making time to pass your passion for the topic on to your students.
