Job description

Are you passionate about hydrology and transport processes in soils? Do you want to make a difference as an inspiring teacher? Do you have an excellent track record in flow and transport in environmental sciences? Do you have a university teaching qualification, or are you willing to obtain such a qualification in a relatively short time? Then this position could be a perfect fit for you!
You will work as a lecturer in the Soil Physics and Land Management chair group.

Your duties and responsibilities include:
  • Lecturing in the bachelor courses (i) Hydrogeology and (ii) Contaminant Hydrogeology
  • Lecturing in master courses (i) Interdisciplinary Topics in Earth and Environment, (ii) Water and Air Flow: Numerical Techniques and (iii) Advanced Hydrological Systems Analysis
  • Setup with colleagues a new master course in Soil Hydrology
  • Support students with GMS and GIS-based modelling tools
  • Supervision bachelor and master thesis students in Soil Physics and Land Management

Requirements

You have;
  • A PhD degree in hydrology or environmental sciences.
  • Passion for education and good presentation skills, willingness to acquire teaching qualifications, and being innovative in education (e.g. addressing new themes, new forms of teaching and computer practical’s, online education).
  • Strong and broad conceptual and methodological knowledge of the biosphere about flow and transport models, including reactive transport and emerging contaminants (e.g. MODFLOW, SEAWAT, MT3DMS, Hydrus/HP).
  • Affinity with modern computer languages and experience with GIS packages (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS) and advanced data analysis techniques.
  • A long-term and innovative vision of flow and transport modelling and its contribution to sustainable land use.
  • A team player attitude with enthusiasm to innovate and excel in teaching.

In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level C1 .

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €3345,- and €5278,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 10). Initially, we offer you a one-year contract of 30,4 hours a week (0,8 FTE), which will then be extended to an open-ended contract if there is mutual enthusiasm.
