Tilburg University / School of Economics and Management (TiSEM) is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher (1.0 FTE) for the Department Econometrics & Operations Research, location: Tilburg, the Netherlands.

Job description

This time of transition calls for people who can further advance the world and science forward.
People who, in keeping with our values, are curious, connecting, caring, and courageous.

Your position
The Department of Econometrics & Operations Research has a vacancy for a 15-month Postdoctoral Researcher within the recently funded ZonMw project “Real-time spatial data-driven modeling of infectious disease outbreaks”. The project is a consortium project, and the postdoc will collaborate closely with the other partners from universities (Eindhoven, Utrecht), university medical centers (Utrecht, Leiden), and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).

At the start of an epidemic of an infectious disease, real-time information on the spatial distribution and transmission patterns of the pathogen is crucial for implementing effective containment strategies. Since time and manpower are scarce at the start of a pandemic, it is crucial to know on forehand which
real-time data are useful to collect and how the data could be included in epidemiological modeling to provide useful information during the early stages of the pandemic. This research project therefore aims to integrate spatial real-time information on wastewater, mobility and contact behavior in epidemiological transmission models and to establish which data sources are most essential for prediction accuracy at the beginning of an emerging pandemic.

Within this project, the main task for the postdoc positioned in Tilburg is to integrate spatial wastewater- and mobility-enhanced models and develop an interpretable machine-learned decision-support methodology for assessing the added value of different data sources when estimating the current state and future trajectory of the epidemic. The spatial models themselves are developed by the other partners, in collaboration with Tilburg.

The postdoctoral researcher will be supervised by dr. Martijn Schoot Uiterkamp. The job can include a teaching task including thesis supervision, which will be consistent with the role of postdoctoral researcher.
