Job description

We are seeking a Research Technician with extensive experience in mammalian cell culture, molecular biology and analytical techniques. The successful applicant will be expected to work in close collaboration with PhD students, senior scientists and to support the supervision and teaching of BSc and MSc students.

Your duties
  • play a constructive and responsible role in the daily management of the cell culture laboratories of the Division of Molecular Toxicology;
  • maintenance of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), differentiation of iPSC to specific tissue targets;
  • management of cell culture consumables, resources and plasticware including responsibilities for ordering;
  • plan experimental procedures and execute specific experimental tasks;
  • management and maintenance of laboratory equipment;
  • instruct and support PhD and MSc students in their experimental work;
  • support teaching staff in MSc and BSc supervision and practical courses.

Requirements

  • a qualification in laboratory skills, i.e. Hoger Laboratorium Onderwijs or equivalent
  • demonstrated hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, preferably with iPSC;
  • experience with molecular and biochemical techniques, including immunostaining, Western Blotting, (q)PCR, high content imaging (advantage), LC-MS (advantage);
  • strong communication, organizational and social skills;
  • high competence in either English or Dutch is an absolute requirement (both are preferred);
  • team player with the ability to work independently;
  • strong motivation for scientific research;
  • teaching experience (advantage)

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

  • a salary of minimum € 3.186,00 (Scale 8) and maximum € 4.255,00 (Scale 8) gross per month, on a full-time basis. This is based on UFO profile Researcher 3. The exact salary depends on your education and experience.
  • a position for at least 0.8 FTE. Your employment contract will initially last 1 year. Afterwards, the possibility of expansion exists.

  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.

At the division of Molecular Toxicology, dept of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences research is carried out to study the molecular mechanisms underlying the toxic effects of drugs and other chemicals. Using innovative human based cellular model systems, cellular assays and metabolomics the mechanism by which chemicals can cause adverse effects are investigated and elaborated.
