Job description

We are looking for an experienced Grant Advisor who is familiar with the (inter)national grant landscape, and can help researchers navigate through the maze of funding opportunities and regulations. Our ideal candidate takes the driver’s seat in informing researchers about new and fitting funding opportunities, and helps them write winning grant proposals. You have a track record of successfully managing consortia and writing awarded grant applications. You have strong writing and communication skills, an ambitious winning attitude, and a strong eye for detail. We’re looking for a colleague who is eager to get things done, but also knows how to have a good laugh after the deadlines. You want to further develop your writing and advising skills and succeed in this role.

As Grant Advisor, you have a leading role in the development of complex national and international grant applications together with the principal investigator (and their partners). You will be in charge of managing grant preparation from the idea phase to the final submission. You will take the lead in guiding the content of the proposal and the writing process, and are responsible for co-writing parts of the proposal and turning it into a high quality application. You will become the primary contact person for at least one of our six strategic themes. You proactively keep yourself up-to-date with the (scientific) developments in the strategic theme and proactively contact researchers with appropriate funding opportunities, identifying and consolidating on fitting funding strategies. Within the F&S team you will be a sparring partner for your direct peers.

In your work:
  • You are proactive and assertive;
  • You take the driver’s seat in the application development process and ensure that the end result is of the highest possible quality;
  • You are a real team player with strong communication skills, who is able to establish and maintain interpersonal relations;
  • You are a conscientious, detail-oriented professional;
  • You have good organization skills and experience with project-based working, being able to keep oversight of multiple complex projects and prioritizing to focus on results.
  • You are an excellent writer with advanced editing skills in English (and preferably in Dutch);
  • You are able to manage multiple projects in parallel on a tight deadline.

We request the following experience and education:
  • You have a Master’s degree and preferably a PhD, ideally within the field of life science/health;
  • You have 3-5 years of experience as a grant writer/grant advisor and have a track record of leading the development of complex international grant applications;
  • You have in-depth knowledge of Dutch (NWA, KIC, Zwaartekracht) and EU (a variety of HEU programs) funding schemes and you are well acquainted with their grant application procedures.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (32 - 36 hours) is € 5.997,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

Department

The Research Office is part of the Directorate Policy & Strategy of the University Medical Center Utrecht. The Research Office focuses on strategic advice on development, implementation and evaluation of science policy within UMC Utrecht. Team Funding & Support (F&S) is part of the Research Office and focuses on advising and supporting the development of grant applications (pre-award) and management of awarded projects (post-award). The grant advisor will be placed within the pre-award branch of F&S which currently counts 8 colleagues. As a member of our pre-award team you will also be assigned as the dedicated grant advisor of one or more of UMCU’s strategic themes, assisting them in finding funding opportunities and creating funding strategies.
