Job description

Are you a junior scientist or a postdoc specializing in PBPK modeling? Join us and contribute to safer, more effective treatments for children and pregnant women. Make a significant impact on global health with our enthusiastic research team!

Many medications for children and pregnant women are often prescribed off-label, which indicates that their efficacy and safety in these populations have not been adequately studied. Consequently, both children and pregnant women, along with their fetuses, are at a greater risk of treatment failure or adverse effects. The project’s primary aim is to create dosing guidelines for these groups by utilizing alternative approaches to clinical trials.

Within the project, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, you will develop and use physiology-based pharmacokinetic models to establish best-evidence doses for children and pregnant women. Moreover, you will work on preparatory actions for the implementation of these newly generated dosing advices in (inter)national guidelines.

You will be embedded in an enthusiastic research group consisting of PhD students, research technicians, clinical scientists, PK modelers, and pharmacists to answer questions related to the efficacy and safety of drugs, for which personalized dosing is highly needed. This will ensure proper guidance and will allow you to build professional experience in this emerging field.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Design and conduct in silico pediatric and/or pregnancy PBPK models to study exposure to pharmaceuticals.
  • Develop model informed dosing guidelines for medication prescription in special populations (e.g. pediatrics), using PBPK modeling.
  • Explore the use of AI and/or machine-learning to support modeling and/or informing dosing guidelines
  • Contribute to (international) workshops aimed at non-modelers to show the value of PBPK modeling in drug development and clinical practice.
  • Prepare presentations and progress reports for scientific discussions internally, as well as externally with (international) scientists.
  • Presenting of outcomes at (international) conferences. Writing of scientific abstracts and papers.
