The Department of Human Movement Sciences is offering an assistant professor position for a driven expert in muscle cell biology, preferably with a background in molecular biology.

Job description

The candidate will initially have about 65% of his/her time dedicated to research and 35% to education. Education includes teaching histology and muscle molecular physiology to master students, and general (molecular) physiology and immunology to bachelor students. The candidate is enthusiastic about creating a stimulating and motivating learning environment for students in his/her teaching
The research addresses muscle adaptation and regeneration with a focus on molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying muscle diseases. Both animal and human studies are included. The candidate will work in the Laboratory for Myology, a brand new, dedicated lab in the O|2 building at the campus of the university.

Candidates may be asked to engage in some minor service or administrative duties and should be willing to acquire a basic qualification in teaching as demanded by Dutch universities (if not already acquired).

Requirements

• A completed PhD in the field of muscle biology, with a focus on molecular and cell biology;
• A demonstrated interest in applying this background to human movement;
• Strong analytical skills;
• Good writing skills and a solid publication track record;
• Good teaching skills – positive evaluation of the students and staff;
• Excellent command of the English Language;
• International scientific network;
• Experience in writing protocols for ethics approval;
• Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

Conditions of employment

Depending on experience, skills and track record, we will offer an appropriate contract and salary in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel. We therefore invite junior as well as senior assistant professors to apply.

There are also possibilities to start a tenure track position  for the duration of 4 years. After 1 and 3 years the performance will be evaluated in terms of teaching, publication record, and acquisition of grants or equivalent project funding. After a successful evaluation permanent employment will be granted.

Salary
The starting salary depends on the experience and qualifications and will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel. It ranges from € 3.475,00 gross per month (salary scale 11.0) up to a maximum of € 4.757,00 (salary scale 11.11), based on full-time employment.
