(Postdoctoral) data scientist in radiotherapy
We are looking for a postdoctoral data scientist at the radiotherapy department of the Netherlands cancer institute / Antoni van Leeuwenhoek You will be working on medical prediction models in a clinical research environment
The project
During the course of treatment, lots of data is generated that can be helpful in determining the efficacy and efficiency of our treatment and innovations. Recently we developed a data infrastructure that enables easy access to large parts of this data. We are using a RDF store to make the information of a multitude of databases and the data warehouse at the hospital available in a meaningful manner. Moreover we are setting up a web service infrastructure that allows for the efficient and systematic evaluation and calculation of data elements not directly available in the source data.
In the coming years we wish to systematically learn from the data sources that have been made available. On the one hand you will be working on enhancing and extending the existing data infrastructure; on the other hand you will be working on the development of prediction models based on the data made available. Key projects at the department are the continuous evaluation and prediction of toxicity due to the treatment and the continuous evaluation of the quality of the delivered treatment. Moreover you will be involved in the national duCAT project (Dutch Computer Assisted Theragnostics). Within this project, which is coordinated by Maastricht University, the participating hospitals set up a joint database of medical information that can be used to generate prediction models using distributed machine learning.
We are looking for a motivated data scientist with an affinity for database architecture and machine learning who sees it as a challenge to work at the interface between the clinic and research. If this challenges you and you recognize yourself in the following conditions, we would like to invite you for an introduction.
Fixed-term contract: 3 years.
We offer a temporary contract for three years. The basis of your employment is in accordance with the CAO hospitals. Your salary will depend on experience, between € 3.490,- and € 3.917,- gross per month amounts based on a 36-hour workweek. This is in accordance with FWG 55. In addition, a fixed annual bonus part of the secondary conditions.
The Netherlands Cancer Institute, the research laboratory of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital (NKI-AVL), is a world-class institute for cancer research and cancer care based in Amsterdam. Its mission is to combat cancer through excellence in patient care and scientific research. In comparison with large universities, NKI-AVL is a relatively small and highly focussed organisation. Within a flat management structure, over 2,100 dedicated scientists, physicians and staff members work in a specialised clinical care unit with 180 beds (AVL) and a closely associated research institute (NKI). Together they treat close to 30,000 patients, produce over 400 scientific publications and support the granting of 30 PhD degrees per year.
The Cluster Radiotherapy of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek is a dynamic department that treats approximately 5,000 patients per year with the most modern techniques. Because of a good collaboration between research and clinical practice, we are able to apply new techniques quickly, safely, and on a large scale. This places Antoni van Leeuwenhoek nationally and internationally at the forefront of clinical radiotherapy.
