Job description

Job description and requirements

Applications are invited for the position of tenure-track assistant professor in the broad domain of business and society management. Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University (RSM) is looking for candidates whose work is strongly rooted in organisation and management theory, but geared towards addressing important business and society topics. To be considered for the tenure-track position, candidates should have a doctorate degree or be in their final year of dissertation research, and should be able to demonstrate the potential to build a record of excellence in both research and teaching.

The Business-Society Management department at RSM was established more than 20 years ago as one of the first business and society departments in a leading European Business School. It still ranks among the best in Europe in terms of research productivity and societal impact. Faculty members have recently published in top-tier journals, such as the Academy of Management Review, the Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Management, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Organization Studies. Faculty members are also actively involved in the academic leadership of scholarly associations (such as IABS, AOM and SAMS) and serve on editorial teams and boards of leading journals in the field. The department offers its own master programme in Global Business and Sustainability, and contributes to all bachelor, master, MBA, MPhil and PhD programmes at RSM.

Current full-time faculty of the Business-Society Management department includes Joep Cornelissen, Muel Kaptein, Lucas Meijs, Marius Van Dijke, Rob Van Tulder, Dianne Bevelander, Ben Wempe, Guido Berens, Steve Kennedy, Samer Abdelnour, Salla Laasonen, Mirjam Werner, Emilio Marti, Corinna Frey, and Helen Gubby. The department also benefits greatly from visiting faculty.

Requirements

The department’s research is multi-disciplinary in nature, using a diverse set of theories and methods to study current topics concerning ethical, social and sustainable forms of management and organisation. Some of the department's research and outreach activities are channelled through RSM’s dedicated research centres on partnerships (the Partnerships Research Centre PrC), women in leadership (the Erasmus Centre for Women in Organisations ECWO), behavioural ethics (the Erasmus Centre of Behavioural Ethics ECBE), corporate communication (Corporate Communication Centre CCC), and sustainability management (ECCET). There is no expectation for the successful applicant to align their research and teaching with these centres; RSM is interested in recruiting the best candidate with a strong grounding in organisational and/or management theory (OMT) through their PhD, and whose research is in the broadly defined domain of business and society.

For more information about RSM activities and faculty, see: http://www.rsm.nl/research/departments/business-society-management/

Preliminary interviews will be held at:

  • the 34th Colloquium of the European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS) in Tallinn, Estonia in July (http://www.egosnet.org), and

  • the Academy of Management (AOM) 78th Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois, USA in August (http://aom.org/annualmeeting/).

To schedule an interview at either of these events, please email your vita to Janneke Batenburg-Suijker at jbatenburg@rsm.nl, at least a week before its start. For more information, contact the Chair of the Search Committee, Joep Cornelissen at cornelissen@rsm.nl or any department colleagues directly.
