Job description

The Cardiovascular and Respiratory Physiology chair

The Cardiovascular & Respiratory Physiology (CRPH) chair will perform research to improve treatment, diagnostics, prevention and management of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. The CRPH chair will extend current translational research and initiate new research to make significant contributions with long-term clinical impact.

Bottom-up approaches include modelling and simulation, at the organ and organ system level. Models will be used to support clinical decision-making, and to improve prediction of outcomes and simulation-based training. Research may include development and implementation of digital technologies, such as wearables for measuring and monitoring physiological and behavioural data.

The education by CRPH serves the curricula of Technical Medicine and Biomedical Engineering.

CRPH will be located in the new Technical Medical Centre, where the health related academic activities of our university will be concentrated.

The Translational Physiology domain

CRPH is part of the Translational Physiology (TP) domain, along with Clinical Neurophysiology (CNPH), Biomedical Signals and Systems (BSS) and Biomechanical Engineering (BME). This domain combines expertise in (patho-)physiology in cardiovascular/respiratory medicine and clinical neurophysiology/neurology with technological expertise in neural and motor systems and human life support. The CNPH and CRPH chairs will collaborate on translating basic knowledge of cardiovascular, respiratory and neurophysiological systems into novel techniques for training and clinical applications.

Job description

Research: you will be the chair leader of CRPH. You will further shape the chair and its research according to your ideas. You will form partnerships with external parties and attract national and international funding. You will (co-)supervise junior researchers (PhD and Postdoc positions) and MSc and BSc students in their research projects.

Education: your teaching revolves around cardiovascular and respiratory physiology, medical signalling and interventions. You will supervise clinical internships of Technical Medicine students. You may also be active in postdoctoral and professional training in the Experimental Centre of Technical Medicine in the Technical Medical Centre. You will spend approximately 20-30% of your time on education, including organizational tasks. Obtaining the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) is compulsory, for which we have a training program.

Organization: you will take up a shared responsibility for the organization of the TP domain, the faculty and the university.
