Job description

The Faculty of International Business and Communication (FIBC) of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences is located in Maastricht and has Educating Global Minds as its mission statement. The faculty offers Bachelor’s degrees in Translation & Interpreting, Oriental Languages and Communication, European Studies, and International Business. It also hosts the research centres of International Relationship Management and International Trade Management and the Confucius Institute Maastricht.

For 27 August, the educational programmes European Studies and International Business would like to welcome a Lecturer of English (0.8 fte).

We are looking for a dynamic, pro-active and well-qualified lecturer to join our Faculty in Maastricht at the start of the 2018-2019 academic year. If you are a subject matter expert, ambitious and committed to bringing out the best in every student, then we have the great job for you.

Position

One of your main tasks is to provide English language education to (internationally-minded) students of the European Studies and International Business programme. Apart from teaching in these programmes, this also involves project and individual supervision of students and coaching. In your position of lecturer you make an important contribution to educational innovation, within the context of competency-based learning.

Requirements

As a candidate for this position you should:

  • have a Master’s degree or PhD in e.g. English language, Communication, International Relations
  • be a native speaker of English
  • be able to teach English as a foreign language in a European/international business context
  • be able to contribute to the development of the curriculum
  • have teaching and coaching skills for Bachelor learning
  • be familiar with current educational views, methods and techniques
  • be able to create a stimulating learning environment for the student. Experience in blended learning in language education is an advantage
  • be flexible, result-oriented and a good team player
  • have a certificate of pedagogical/didactic skills or the willingness to obtain one
  • have experience in an international (business) setting
  • have reasonable command of Dutch (would be an asset).

Conditions of employment

The faculty offers

  • a professional, internationally oriented and inspiring working environment with a focus on connecting education with applied research. The atmosphere is informal and you work mostly in teams with committed colleagues;
  • a temporary contract, for 0.8 FTE, with Randstad Payroll or stichting Zuyd Hogeschool for the duration of one year, starting 27 August 2018, which may be extended based on performance and availability;
  • a salary depending on academic background and professional experience, of maximum scale 11 according to the CAO-HBO, the collective agreement for universities (maximum €4,661.12 before taxes, per month, under fulltime employment);
  • For internal candidates the current contract will be respected.
