Assistant Professor Entrepreneurship (tenure track) 1.0 fte

Job description

The Maastricht Center for Entrepreneurship, in combination with the Department of Organisation & Strategy, has a vacancy for assistant professor in the field of Entrepreneurship. It is a tenure track position implying a 10 year temporary contract with a decision after 5 years for tenure (permanent contract). Standard Dutch university regulations imply and the salary scale is 11. After a positive tenure decision, the position will be promoted to assistant professor, job level 1 and salary scale 12. As an assistant professor you contribute to teaching and research in the broad field of entrepreneurship. The position is business studies oriented and examples of fields where the assistant professor specializes in may include commercializing science and technology, venture capital, opportunity recognition and exploitation, business models, social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial teams, born globals and hi-tech entrepreneurship.

The Maastricht Center for Entrepreneurship has a collection of teaching activities, using the Maastricht Problem Based Learning approach. It organizes the Maastricht Entrepreneurship Weeks and it offers students pre-incubation support. Research activities in the field of entrepreneurship take place in the connected department of Organisation & Strategy. The department has, next to entrepreneurship, strong faculty in the area of organizational behavior, innovation and strategy and industrial organization. It promotes multi-disciplinary research. There is collaboration with various European universities and Maastricht University stands out as an excellent place for applied economics and business research. Maastricht University is an internationally orientated university and the language of teaching and communication inside the entire School of Business and Economics is English.

Requirements

Qualifications for a candidate for the position at hand are: a recently obtained PhD degree and evidence of high level teaching and research experiences. Teaching experiences include course work and master thesis supervision. Research experiences include conferences and submitted, accepted or published work in international academic journals. Examples of the level of journals that are typically expected from and aimed for by staff are Journal of Business Venturing, Research Policy, Journal of Product and Innovation Management, Small Business Economics, Journal of Technology Transfer, and Entrepreneurship: Theory and Practice.  Practical experience related to venture creation is welcome. The tenure track criteria are ambitious but set so as to be attainable.

Conditions of employment

Initially, candidates are employed on a temporary contract as assistant professor (level 2) and agree to specific development goals. Five years into the appointment, candidates will be evaluated and if the development goals have been met, promoted to assistant professor (level 1) on a permanent contract. The evaluation can be brought forward if criteria are met earlier. On the candidate’s request the evaluation can be deferred in case of special personal circumstances, such as pregnancy leave, parental leave or chronic illness.

For researchers from outside the Netherlands there is a possibility of applying for tax free allowence which amounts to 30% of the taxable salary.
