Background:
According to the latest projections of the United Nations, the total population will rise to 9.8 billion by 2050. The supply of enough food to feed this population is a major concern. Additionally, agricultural production is associated with various environmental problems. Sustainable food production therefore is high on the political agendas. The application of microbes is seen as a novel and promising development to increase sustainable food production. However, currently, the expected consumer acceptance and sustainability impacts on the food supply chain are unknown.

Who we are:
The successful applicant will be based in Wageningen and will be a part of the group Business Economics. The mission of BEC is to analyse and support decision making of actors in food supply chains by analysing and evaluating their risks and their economic, environmental and social performance. WU is internationally renowned for its research and education in the fields of life sciences and sustainability. Through these activities we aim to make essential contributions to the quality of life.
