The Department of Human Movement Sciences, VU University Amsterdam, is offering a two-year PostDoc position (with possible extension to a third year), focused on the study of the neural mechanisms underlying the emergence of walking in children with cerebral palsy. The position is funded by an ERC (European Research Council) Starting Grant (more info about the project: Learn2Walk).
Applicants are expected to have a strong background in motor control and neural control of human locomotion, as well as experience with EEG/EMG data collection and analysis. Minor teaching tasks may be included, e.g. master thesis or PhD supervision within the research area of the postdoc (more info about the group: CoordinationDynamic Group).

Candidates should preferably have obtained a PhD after January 2017, or expect to obtain it by August 2018.

• The researcher will conduct research to study the reorganization of cortical and corticomuscular
  activity during walking in children with cerebral palsy.
• Organize and conduct measurements in collaboration with other team members of the group at the VU University Amsterdam, VU medical center (VUmc) and at Maastricht University medical center (MUMC).
• The researcher will have the main responsibility to carry out the eeg data analysis on the collected data.
• Learn and apply state of the art techniques.
• Promote team work with researchers working on similar projects.
• Write high standard international peer-reviewed publications.
• Present research findings at scientific conferences and to local stakeholders.

• A PhD degree in in the field of movement science, neuroscience, physics, or related fields.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills;
• Experience in electrophysiology (EEG, EMG);
• Demonstrable (affinity with) technical skills, such as programming, use of Matlab/C++ or similar.
• A demonstrated ability to publish scientific papers;
• An ability to work well in team
• Sufficient command of the Dutch Language;
• Good command of the English Language (mandatory);
• Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team

Salary
The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel, and depending on experience, range from a minimum of
€ 3.389,- gross per month (salaryscale 10-5) up to a maximum of € 4.274,-  (max salary scale 10) gross per month, based on a fulltime employment.
