The Chair is part of the Societal Sciences in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Radboud University. The professor to occupy this Chair will be the Head of the Sociology group (50% teaching and 50% research). There is also a Chair of Empirical Sociology and two Chairs focusing on Research Methodology.
The Bachelor’s degree programme in Sociology was ranked first in Elsevier’s ranking and in the ‘Keuzegids Universiteiten 2017’, after having been elected as the best study programme in the country for eight consecutive years, and was assessed as a ‘top’ programme (as was the Master’s degree programme in Policy and Applied Research in 2016).
The research takes place at the Radboud Social Cultural Research (RSCR) institute, which also organises the Research Master’s degree programme. PhD education is offered by the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS). The national committee that evaluated all sociological research in the Netherlands concluded: ‘The research carried out at Nijmegen is of a very high standard’ (Research Assessment 2014, 18).
