Job description

As part of our growth ambitions, we seek to appoint a new assistant professor who is passionate about entrepreneurship and is committed to research and teaching excellence in this exciting field. The new hire will play a key role in strengthening our entrepreneurship section and expanding its research and teaching programs. Doing so requires familiarity with startup and/or corporate entrepreneurship, based on research or professional experience. The position is embedded in a supportive international work environment that is characterized by a strong commitment towards research productivity, teaching innovation and teamwork.
 
Your duties
• initiate and perform high-quality research in the field of entrepreneurship, culminating in top tier publications and grant acquisitions
• teach and design courses, both at the bachelor level (e.g., the SBE Minor Entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship courses offered at other faculties of VU) and master level (e.g., the joint VU-UvA Master in Entrepreneurship, as well as supervise bachelor and master theses.

Requirements

Candidates must have a PhD in Management or a related field in the social sciences (completed or with a fixed date for the defense) and should be fluent in English. Prior publication experience in top management or entrepreneurship journals is a strong asset. Candidates without a completed PhD but who already have a proven research record are also encouraged to apply. So are current assistant professors with a few years of experience. They might complete the tenure track early. 
  

Conditions of employment

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of € 3,545,- and a maximum € 4,852,- in accordance with salary scale 11, depending on your education and experience. The job profile (Universitair docent 2) is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 1,0 FTE.
 
The initial employment contract will be for a period of 6 years, with the possibility of extension. The position involves research (40%) and teaching (60%). Candidates should be willing to acquire a basic qualification in teaching as demanded by Dutch universities (if they do not already have one). The position of Assistant Professor is a tenure track position with initial appointment for 2+4 years and possibility of tenure.

The Department of Management & Organization
The Department of Management and Organization comprises a large, diverse group of micro and macro scholars who seek to combine research excellence with passion in teaching. The department has a strong research tradition, manifested in top tier publication records (Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management Studies etc.) and success in attracting external funding for research. The Department has a collaborative ethos with members actively working together on research and teaching projects. We offer an active PhD program, Master programs in Entrepreneurship, Management Consulting, Human Resource Management, International Business, Leadership Change Management and Strategy & Organization and a broad range of courses in several Bachelor programs. The Assistant Professor will enhance and contribute to the Department’s teaching and research activities and be member of the entrepreneurship section. The research program of this section focuses on core topics in the field of entrepreneurship such as the creation and growth of new firms and industries, the psychological and cognitive underpinnings of entrepreneurship, corporate entrepreneurship and strategic renewal, and the dynamics of regional clusters and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Important outlets for the group are Journal of Business Venturing and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice.
