Job description

Research
As a tenure-track Assistant Professor you will further strengthen research in experimental condensed matter physics, particularly in the field of ultrafast charge and spin dynamics in ferroics. We will encourage you to look for opportunities to add new and complementary aspects to the current activities of the Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Correlated Materials (USCM) group, while also working closely with other members of the department. Candidates with expertise in far- and mid-infrared (THz) spectroscopy are encouraged to apply. Radboud University hosts two unique large scale facilities - the High Field Magnetic Laboratory (HFML) and the Free Electron Laser for Infrared eXperiments (FELIX). The USCM department has strategically decided to develop collaboration with these facilities. The candidates are therefore encouraged to describe their vision on the development of future joint projects with FELIX and HFML.

Education
We will encourage you to enthusiastically adopt a leading role in the development and teaching of modern and inspiring courses in physics. These courses are part of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes of the educational institute of Physics & Astronomy, which have strong ties with the research conducted at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (IMM).

Department

Faculty of Science
The Institute for Molecules and Materials is an interdisciplinary research institute in chemistry
and physics at Radboud University. Its mission is to perform fundamental research and train the next generation of leaders in science and entrepreneurship at the highest international standards. The IMM actively explores and promotes interaction with industry.
The IMM distinguishes itself from similar institutes by intense collaborations and interactions between chemists and physicists and/or experimentalists and theorists and a strong infrastructure including a connection to the large user facilities such as the High Field Magnet Laboratory (HFML) and Free Electron Laser facility FELIX.

You will formally be part of the department of Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Correlated Materials (USCM) headed by Prof. A. V. (Alexey) Kimel and should be able to contribute to the research conducted by that group and the IMM in general. The USCM department has a broad research programme to study ultrafast dynamics order parameters and recording in ferroics (magnets, ferroelectrics, multiferroics), based on state-of-the-art techniques for spectroscopy and imaging.

Radboud University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to building a culturally diverse intellectual community, and as such encourages applications from women and minorities. The university offers customised facilities to better align work and private life. Parents are entitled to partly paid parental leave and Radboud University employees enjoy flexibility in the way they structure their work.
