Targeting platelets in the prevention of recurrent cardiovascular events

Job description

We are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher in the Biochemistry department at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM) for a research project funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO Vidi 91716421).

The goal of the project is to disclose underlying signaling mechanisms for the role of platelets in recurrent cardiovascular events, such as myocardial infarction and stroke, and to find new reference points for antithrombotic medication.

The project involves a local team of platelet biologists, physicians and a drug design specialist with ample input from (inter)nationally-based biomedical engineers and proteomics specialists. Research techniques include advanced microscopic imaging, experimental (athero)thrombosis studies, histology, in silico drug design, proteomics, specific platelet function tests and a vessel-on-a-chip approach using microfluidics.

Responsibilities of the postdoc will include: carrying out a significant part of the daily supervision of two PhD students, writing manuscripts, setting up and analysing platelet proteomics studies, and (aiding in) developing a custom-made microfluidics device. (aiding in) developing a custom-made microfluidics device, and setting up and analysing platelet proteomics studies
