As Assistant Professor of Mobility and Spatial Planning you will be part of the chair group of Spatial Planning in the department of Geography, Planning and Environment of the Nijmegen School of Management (NSM). The position includes both research and teaching tasks.

You will be involved in further developing the mobility theme at NSM and the GPE department and in the Spatial Planning group. You will carry out high-quality research using institutional and governance perspectives on mobility and spatial planning. You will teach in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Geography, Planning and Environment, and the mobility track within the Master’s programme in Spatial Planning. Furthermore you will work on the visibility of the mobility theme within Radboud University nationally and internationally. You will publish regularly in leading international academic journals, and participate actively in internationalization activities of the NSM.

• a PhD degree in the relevant subject areas, especially mobility studies, spatial planning, geography, environmental studies.

 
Teaching:

• excellent teaching record and proven teaching skills;
• basic competencies in course and curriculum development;
• ability to co-develop and pursue a vision on the group’s mobility focus, notably in the form of a Master’s track.

 
Research:

• ability to contribute to the group’s perspective;
• publications (proven qualities in contributing to the international academic debate in the field, as apparent from publications in academic journals);
• ability to develop focus in light of broader developments (thorough knowledge of recent theoretical, methodological and empirical developments in the field);
• ability to cooperate with stakeholders at all levels in shared public activities, participating in research associations and networks.

Language:

• As our GPE Bachelor’s programme is partly taught in Dutch, we would expect the candidate to be able to teach in Dutch, or to acquire the skills to do so. Intensive courses in Dutch are available at RU. The Master’s degree programmes - to which you will be expected to contribute - are fully taught in English.

• employment: 0.8 - 1.0 FTE
• a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,852 based on a 38-hour working week (salary scale 11)
• depending on qualifications and experience. Preliminary salary scale 10 may apply

• duration of the contract: fixed term contract for 2 years

Nijmegen School of Management
The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education within Radboud University, focusing on institutional and managerial issues concerning complex organisations in both the public and private domain. It covers seven disciplines: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach whenever possible. The NSM employs 260 FTEs, of whom 75% are academics. The NSM currently has approximately 4,200 students.

Spatial planning research and education in Nijmegen aims at discovering potentials and opportunities, acknowledging difference and ambiguity, and providing pathways to urban futures. In that spirit, the group follows three main objectives: educating future professionals and academics for daily practice of planning; offering advice to stakeholders and the general public on actual planning issues; improving the knowledge about and the knowledge for planning practice through academic and applied research. The group does so in three main interrelated fields: land and property development; water and climate governance, and mobility and spatial planning. Core theoretical perspectives focus on governance and institutional dimensions. The research of the planning group covers a broad set of fields relevant to mobility questions, spatial development and sustainability, including new mobility concepts, issues of justice and transport, transit-oriented development, and urban futures. We work with diverse qualitative and quantitative methods, including gaming, group model building or GIS and map-based techniques, and have access to up-to-date hardware and tools (e.g. map tables). The group works in international, national, regional and local projects, networks and contexts, and has a very good track record of research projects. The Faculty supports a number of multidisciplinary research groups focusing on responsible decision making, governance and innovation in social services, innovation and entrepreneurship, sustainable places and practices, local-global divides and connections, and European policy and legislation. Many of these themes include topics or address challenges related to mobility and transport and offer the opportunity for multi- and inter-disciplinary research projects.
